Taylor County was organized in 1848 by settlers from Virginia, Pennsylvania, Maryland and North Carolina after the American Revolutionary War. The county was named after United States Army General Zachary Taylor, who later became President of the United States of America.
Taylor County was the 100th county created out of 120 in the Commonwealth of Kentucky, its county seat is Campbellsville. The county consists of 277 square miles, shaped like a heart and is the geographical center of the state.
Use extreme caution when visiting the Old Taylor County Courthouse due to ongoing construction to the building. Certain entrances, parking and/or streets may be blocked at certain times to keep everyone safe.
